Contract of Employment and New Starter Process

Client: Recenseo

Recenseo – The Sussex Marketing Company – is a successful marketing and PR agency working with professional companies across the South of England. The company is growing and taking on new employees. With no in-house HR specialist, the MD engaged us to ensure that the company complied with its legal obligations in relation to employing staff and that the company’s desire to be a great place to work was reflected in the terms and conditions of employment.

The Solution:
A bespoke contract of employment and a suite of ‘new starter’ documents to be used for the current hire and when taking on staff in the future.

What we did:
We reviewed the company’s existing employment contract to ensure it was legally compliant and reflected the company’s style and values. We advised the MD on changes in legislation which impacted on what should and should not be included.

We discussed company specific provisions, for example, annual leave entitlement, and how they should be presented to ensure the procedures would be workable now and with a larger workforce as the company grew. We included robust clauses to protect the company with regard to absence, disciplinary, and restrictions on employees during and post employment.

We provided bespoke letters and documents – the essentials for taking on a new employee which included:

  • Conditional/final offer letter
  • Statement of terms and conditions of employment
  • Job description
  • Disciplinary and grievance procedures
  • Health and safety statement
  • Induction checklist
  • Health questionnaire
  • Right to Work guidance

The Outcome:
Peace of mind and assurance that all legal obligations were met when recruiting Recenseo’s new member of staff.

Dianne from Sussex HR Hub spent time understanding our business strategy to ensure that our growth will be built on solid HR foundations and so our HR policies are as robust for the twentieth employee as for the first. We have always invested in our policies and contractual documentation and we knew our employment process was the next element needing professional input. With the help of Sussex HR Hub we can now on-board new staff in a professional and uniform manner.
